Aquascope

This week, a stunning website from Sweden, designed to 'inspire teachers, students, laymen and alike to new experiences and discoveries in and by the sea.'

Divided up into two main areas with well written text and beautiful illustrations, the site covers everything a budding marine biologist could ask for. A beachcomber's dream, the facts section is the jewel in Aquascope's crown - follow the illustrated menu to a broad collection of detailed factfiles, where you can read about everything from seaweed to jellyfish. Many of the descriptions are cross-referenced with other articles, giving you a great way to browse through the material. The Inspiration section consists of 'exiting, beautiful and chaotic pages', including text and videos on seal life, angler fish and more. You'll also find tips for your own beach trips, with a guide to beach biology.

The site is in English as well as Swedish, though one or two sections are in Swedish only. Watch out for a couple of mistakes though - one or two links lead to the wrong language, though it's fairly easy to find your way back on course with a bit of perseverance. And though the translation is usually excellent, there's a few amusing sentences, including the section intriguingly entitled 'investigating soft shallow bottoms'.
