Australian Museum Online http://www.amonline.net.au/

There are thousands of museum websites on the Internet, most of them providing little more than a photo of the car park and information on holiday opening times. Thankfully, the Australian Museum Online is not like most museum websites. Like the Natural History Museum http://www.nhm.ac.uk the Australian Museum allows visitors to explore a site with almost as much content as the museums themselves...

To head straight for the excitingV parts, click on the ÔFeaturesÕ tab in the menu at the top. This will lead to a list of major online sections, which includes Bats, Fish, Biodiversity, and AustraliaÕs Lost Kingdoms, amongst others. These sections are big enough and clever enough to be sites in their own right - each is well designed and packed to the brim with top-quality pictures and well written info. The Fish section, for example, features identification keys, fish movies and factfiles on fish species galore.

Move over to the ÔExploreÕ or ÔCollectionsÕ sections to find out about the museums exhibits and research work, browse gallery after gallery of photographs from the museum and beyond, and access educational resources for teachers and students.
